Mitie Ready2Work info
-
Ready2Work is an eight-week on-the-job work experience programme that gives selected candidates the chance to work within a Mitie business, with one of Mitie’s clients, or a partner organisation, with the ultimate goal of helping them secure full-time employment.
-
Mitie have an agreement with the Job Centre’s nationally that all benefit is retained during this programme. Being part of the Ready2Work programme is at no cost to candidates taking part.
-
All candidates come away with a set of key transferable employability skills and, in the majority of cases, a job. At present the success rate of candidates converting their placement into paid work is more than 70%.
-
This programme gives you the opportunity to gain work experience within a national business. We encourage you throughout to continue to apply for work, but you will have access to Mitie’s internal vacancies, and the Foundation will offer support with applications wherever needed. You will gain a set of key transferable employability skills and a current reference to take with you.
-
Before organising a Ready2Work programme, Mitie liaise with JobCentre Plus and other providers to source suitable candidates to attend an open day.
-
At the open days, our team then interview the candidates to learn more about their interests and aspirations, before matching the successful candidates up with the most suitable placement.
-
The Ready2Work programme offers candidates a bespoke one week training course prior to starting their placement. Run directly by our team, this training week will help to clarify workplace expectations and develop your transferable employability skills; including CV writing and interview technique, team working, networking, presentation and communication skills.
-
The placement offers candidates the opportunity to experience life within a real business environment. All candidates are assigned an on-site mentor who ensures the work experience is relevant and beneficial to your personal development. The mentor will also conduct two appraisals during the seven weeks, helping you to track your progress and support you in any areas that require further development. In addition to this, one of our team acts as an external mentor, and will visit you during your placement, offering out-of-hours support where necessary.
-
Every candidate receives a certificate for completing the programme, as well as a qualification from OCN. There is also a prize awarded to the candidate who is judged – by their peers – to have progressed the most over the course of the programme. The awards ceremony is a celebration of everyones achievements throughout the 8 weeks.
-
For those candidates who have not yet secured employment the Foundation team will keep in contact to help you apply for roles and send you any internal vacancies that arise.
Mitie pre-placement weeks usually run across four days, focussing on the following key areas:
-
Introduction to Mitie – Guest speakers from Mitie and alumni Ready2Work candidates will give you a real understanding of the programme and business
-
Confidence building – Hands-on activities will push you out of your comfort zone. A session with a health and wellbeing representative will also be available, to help you transition back into a working week.
-
Interview practice – As a candidate, you will have the opportunity to gain 360 degree interview feedback with Mitie managers and directors. These interview practice sessions will help refresh your knowledge and understanding of how to interview well.
-
Presentation skills – You will be challenged to develop and present an idea for a product or service, helping you refine your presentation skills, as well as business acumen.
As Mitie’s corporate charity, Mitie is able to place candidates on all sorts of exciting work experience. Just some of the service lines you could be working in include:
-
Facilities management
-
Office administration
-

-

-
If you are receiving benefits, your benefits will remain the same and your travel to and from your work experience placement is covered by The Job Centre Plus or referral agency. During pre-placement week, lunch will also be provided.
-
If you are interested in hosting a candidate and being a mentor on a Ready2Work programme, please contact Mitie at Foundation@mitie.com and they can send you further details and answer any of your questions.
